Basenjis are active dogs from the hound group. Their origin is from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The Basenji is known to be an aloof, very affectionate dog. Basenjis can be fiercely protective of their families. They get along with other dogs but can be argumentative sometimes. Basenjis are called barkless dogs, but they do make noises by yelping and yodeling.
Basenjis require lots of exercises. They are excellent climbers and very fast. It is recommended to have a backyard with a minimum 6-foot fenced-in area. They are great at luring. It is important to keep them on a structured schedule for eating and exercise. A good Basenji is a tired Basenji!
Basenjis should never be allowed off-leash. They are a high-prey breed and are known to be hard to teach recall due to their intense prey focus. They will see a bird before you do!
Basenjis come in the following colors: Red & White, Black & White, Brindle, and Tri-Trindle. There are also the rare colors: Mahogany and Blue.
It is very important to start training your puppy early. Every opportunity to teach crate training, potty training, and obedience will set your Basenji up for the best success to be a great family member.
Basenjis are loyal, fun-loving dogs. Please contact us to find out more about this amazing breed.
